Welcome to Alma

About Alma

At the very western edge of the state you’ll find Alma, a town of about 780 residents nestled along the bank of the Mississippi River. Because of Alma’s location, it is a great place to see Bald Eagles and other types of birds.

One of the biggest attractions in the Alma area is the Buena Vista Park. The park may be small, but it still showcases some fantastic views of the Mississippi River from 500 feet above the city. The naturally formed bluff allows visitors to walk out and soak in all the beauty that nature has to offer, especially when the sun begins to set. Another fantastic recreation opportunity is Rieck’s Lake Park, an overnight camping facility with views of the Mississippi. Rieck’s Lake is located at the convergence point of the Buffalo and Mississippi Rivers and offers some spectacular views of the river along with the big green rolling hills as the backdrop.

Alma is a member of Bird City Wisconsin and is home to many different species of birds. While Bald Eagles are one of the most popular birds to watch for, the area is also known to have groups of Tundra Swans sometimes fly in. Some endangered species also call the area home, such as the Trumpeter Swan and the Peregrine Falcon. The Tiffany Wildlife State Natural Area allows visitors to go on a hike and see species of birds like the great egret, great-blue herons, pileated woodpeckers, and many more!

This little town on the Mississippi offers so much to those who visit. Whether you’re into bird watching or sightseeing, Alma has something for you. Check out some of the local listings and make the move to Alma today!
